Pop Songs & their Magic of '90s

We all in the recent past got time to sit back and re-live our childhood days!! The pandemic made us do things that we would have otherwise never dreamt of doing. My interest in music has been from childhood days, I am sure most of us tried bathroom singing too. Amidst the rock, jazz one important genre growing up was pop music. Well writing about it itself is taking me back to the memory lane of the playlist we all heard growing up ---the first few songs I had heard was Alisha Chinai's -  Made In India song from the same album. The eyes drooling Milind Soman cannot be missed in that song 😉

Shweta Shetty's --- Johny Joker, Nazia Hassan's &  Biddu's Remix- Boom Boom.

I think a lot of actors made their debut or we caught their first glimpse in the Pop songs. To name a few are Anupama Verma, Shahid Kapoor, Ria Sen, Malaika.  Any fashion show could not go complete without Suneeta Rao's -- Pari Hoon Main. Mehendi ceremony could not be complete without the Models song Mehendi Ki Raat. Anamika, Anaida, Bali Brahmbhatt, Bombay Vikings the names that are long lost.

Growing up in the '90s had a host of other budding singers like Falguni Pathak, Palash Sen, and every Bollywood singer to gain popularity, recognition wanted to try their hands in this genre too. Like my, all-time favorite was Sonu Nigam and his Deewana album. On repeat mode listening to Ab Mujhe Raat Din, thanks to my brother who had this amazing craze of having his own cassette collection. Contributing to my everlasting madness for listening to music.

Mohit Chauhan's Silk Route, Shaan's - Tanha Dil also were quite a hit in those times. Colonial Cousins - Sa Ni Dha Pa, Krishna songs cannot be missed. Lucky Ali came to the limelight with his ever soulful songs O Sanam, Dekha Hai Aise Bhi. One album that I hear to even today is Stereo Nations  ---- Nachangi Saari Raat, Pyar Ho Gaya Kisise... Woooh, WOW!! So much to express through music and lyrics.

Bally Sagoo was such a sensation right from Noorie, Aaja Nachle, Gur Naal Ishq Mitha, that to date on public demand people perform the universal dance step on Sangeet functions. Daler Mehendi, Mika added their flavor and energy into the industry to make it rocking & rolling. After a while, it looked like it was mandatory to have an album of your own to have a stand in the industry. Shubha Mudgal, KK, Kamaal Khan. We heard them all and enjoy the songs till date undoubtedly.  This Industry had a slump for many years but certainly bouncing back with names like Honey Singh, Guru Randhawa, Neha Kakkar, Dhvani Bhanushali. The list may go on, but most certainly shall be the memory that I have had with the songs I grew up with that shall always remain closer to my heart :) The time that I shall always cherish!

  11. 90's was an era that will remain closest to our hearts. Your post has brought back a lot of fond memories. I remember dancing on so many songs. Phalguni pathak songs are still famous in garba nights. Even today parties are incomplete without the sauda khara khara.. Though the new gen is making a lot of remix but the charm of 90's is unmatched. I still love the basic version over the remix. :)

These songs are still close to the heart and I can recollect all lyric's of these peppy numbers. As a 90's kid I can vouch that this era saw more versatility in singing and genres of music. Also, some videos are still freshly etched in memories. Btw, I am playing the song 'Pyar Ho Gaya' as I type out this comment. Wonderful post dear!
